There are so many different kinds of wireless speakers out there at the moment, and they seem to be accompanied with a huge amount of jargon that just doesn’t seem to make sense! NFC, IP rating, aux input and aux output: when you’re looking for a wireless speaker, where do you even start?
Start right here. There are five things that you need to consider when it comes to treating yourself to a wireless speaker, and when you know how you feel about them, you will be that much closer to getting that perfect wireless speaker for you.
How much are you willing to spend?
This will easily divide wireless speakers into two camps: those you are willing to pay for, and those you aren’t. Always have a little leeway in mind, because the questions below may make you realise you want a little more from your wireless speaker than you thought!
Do you want your wireless speaker to be portable?
Some wireless speakers are lightweight and have a rechargeable battery that means you can play it wherever you want; others have a little more power but need to be turned on at the mains.
Do you want your wireless speaker to be rugged and tough?
An IP rating means that the wireless speaker has reached an international standard for being either dust proof, water proof, or both. The larger the numbers, the more rugged and tough it is, so IP66 is going to be more resistant than IP44.
Do you want your wireless speaker to be personal or party?
Having a wireless speaker that keeps you entertained and some of your friends with some of your favourite songs is very different to hosting your own house party.
Do you want extra features like NFC pairing?
NFC pairing is a type of Bluetooth that is quicker and stronger, but is only available on some devices, so there is no point getting a speaker that has it if your device doesn’t!
